Well this has been a sobering experience in seeing how often I repeat myself…

On 20th August 2009, Laura Freschi added the post ‘How to make an advocacy video about Africa, take II’ to the AidWatch blog. Lots of good suggestions followed:

On 28th December 2009, Bill Easterly summarised feedback from a previous post, under the new post ‘How to write about poor people, cont’d (the Interactive Edition)’, on the AidWatch blog. It’s like a slightly geeky crowd sourced homage to Binyavanga Wainaina’s “How to write about Africa”:

On 28th January 2010, Bill Easterly added the post ‘Product (RED): from ridicule to dialogue’ to the AidWatch blog, leading to an interesting discussion on fair trade and advocacy:

On 9th March 2010, Blood and Milk blog addressed criticism of the AidWatch blog in the post, ‘Is Bill Easterly useless?’. Comments discussed constructive criticism:

On 12th March 2010, Texas In Africa posted an extract of a good new paper on celebrity humanism and asked if the dominant celebrity narrative about Africa functions as neo-colonialism:

On 23rd March 2010, Bill Easterly added the post ‘Do any of these toffs work in development?’ to the AidWatch blog. A long and lively debate ensued:

On 24th March 2010, duckrabbit blog asked ‘Why not images of Haiti – by Haitians?’

On 7th April 2010, Wronging Rights responded to a Mother Jones article about celebrity activism in Africa with a post called ‘Help Us, Josh Groban, You’re Our Only Hope!’. Amid the lighter-hearted comments, I strode in with a gripe about NGO communications and soon after decided that I should pull my own stuff together in one place, where I can update it without pouncing on other people’s comment boxes.

If I hadn’t spent so long trying to learn how to drive WordPress I’d have been trying to think of something to add to the good comments and responses on Tales From the Hood’s post on Mind over Media
